On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 8:30 am, ACRE President Richard McBryde, Vice President Dave Martello, Pension Chairman Bobby Collins, and Healthcare Chairman Phillip Funderburk met with Mayor Paul Young regarding a pension increase and the possibility of getting a person from ACRE to serve on the City of Memphis Pension Board. The following information was written by Phillip Funderburk.
ACRE continues to work for retirees and address the issues facing them. We are glad to report that today our new Mayor, Paul Young, took the time to meet with us. He hosted four members of the ACRE Board at City Hall this morning.
We were given the opportunity to discuss a pension increase with him and his staff. ACRE President Richard McBryde presented our presentation, after which we had a discussion regarding our request.
The mayor stated that he understood our request but would not commit to anything until his staff had the opportunity to look into what a pension increase would cost and the result to the pension fund. He promised to make this a priority and get back with us within the next two or three weeks. This will give his staff time to gather information and present to him so that an educated decision regarding our request can be made.
As always ACRE will continue to fight for all retirees from all sections of City government. If you are a City of Memphis active employee or retiree and are not a member of ACRE, we ask that you visit our website at acrememphis.org and for $25.00 a year consider joining. As always we are a source of information for our members and fight for our retirees needs every chance we get.
